The intention to get in shape is a common New Year’s resolution. What many people don’t realize is that it doesn’t have to take a lot of time and money spent at the gym to do so. Walking often is a great way to keep your metabolism up, and there are many body weight exercises that can be done from the comfort of your living room furniture. The following are a few suggestions on how to multipurpose your living room set for exercise.
Sofa
Sofas are great for elevating certain body parts, which can add variety or even increase the intensity of a particular move.
- bridges
- side planks
- crunches
Coffee Table
For moves that require a hard, flat surface like a chair or table, a solidly made, heavier coffee table works perfectly. (Bonus: you don’t even have to step away from the TV!)
- tricep press
Pillows
Pillows can play double duty as obstacles for high-intensity moves like jumping exercises, or as bolsters during your relaxing stretch or cool-down.
- hop-overs
- bolsters for stretching/yoga
These are just a few ways you can use the pieces already around you to get yourself closer to your New Year’s goals, but remember: the possibilities are endless. Whatever your intention, get creative with it and have fun!
